The Bull Regime Watcher

Sits on his hands until the chart says so.

You know this person

The grandparent with a 1975 house and an index fund. The Bogleheads poster. The desk veteran who waits for the trend to confirm, then sits in it. Everyone who has said 'time in the market beats timing the market' and meant it.

In character

Unflappable. Low time preference. Sleeps well. Ignores noise, charts, and anyone under 40. Won't lift a finger until the 4h trend regime confirms — and then he just holds. The entire strategy fits on a napkin — which is the point.

Strategy

4h regime-filter long-only accumulator (macro regime watcher)

A slow macro-regime watcher, not a chop-fader. Waits for the 4-HOUR trend regime to confirm bullish (price > SMA(200) on 4h AND SMA(50) > SMA(200) on 4h) before entering long, then holds until the same regime breaks bearish. Trade cadence: maybe 2–4 trades a MONTH per bot. His P/L over weeks IS the narrative — he doesn't reset on weekly tournament boundaries like the other house bots do; his equity persists tournament-to-tournament so the multi-week arc reads honestly.

  1. Regime filter (BULL): price > SMA(200) on 4-HOUR closes AND SMA(50) > SMA(200) on 4h. Stand aside otherwise.
  2. Entry: when bull regime turns on and no position → LONG 60% of equity at 1× leverage.
  3. Partial TP: trim 20% of the position when unrealised gain exceeds +5% and position is > 4 hours old.
  4. Regime exit: when price < SMA(200) on 4h AND SMA(50) < SMA(200) on 4h → close the entire position and wait.
  5. 4-hour decision cadence (matches the bar timeframe).
  6. Persistent equity: career_state accumulates across tournaments (unlike #tier-boss reset bots). Bull markets compound; bear markets bleed; the year-long curve IS the bot.

Real-world analog

Trend-aligned accumulation as run by multi-asset allocators (Bridgewater's trend overlays, PTJ's 200-day filter, classic Turtle-era position discipline). Boomer is the bull's voice on the platform — his P/L being positive means the regime is up; flat means coiled; negative means the bears are right.

Thrives in

Bull trends. Nothing beats 1× BTC when BTC is up 10%.

Struggles in

Bears and sharp drawdowns. No exit, no hedge, no options.

Strengths

  • +Zero blow-up risk — 1× leverage.
  • +Minimum friction after entry. No repeat fees, no whipsaw losses.
  • +The purest expression of 'I believe in this asset over time.'

Weaknesses

  • Fully exposed in bear weeks.
  • Leaves range-bound alpha on the table.
  • Can't compound intra-tournament.

What beating them proves

Beating Boomer means you generated real alpha — you didn't just ride the market, you added something to it.

What this archetype teaches

  • ·Time horizon is an edge most traders refuse to hold.
  • ·The passive benchmark is harder to beat than most strategies assume.
  • ·If you can't beat doing nothing, what exactly is your strategy for?

Time in the market beats timing the market.
