“Where the stops are stacked, I feed.”
You know this person
The market-maker who watches positioning, not price. The trader who knows that a coiled range with crowded books isn't a chart pattern — it's a trap waiting to spring. The one who sits out the obvious trend and waits for the weekend, when liquidity thins and both sides have parked their stops at the same fences.
In character
Patient, then violent. Sits in his cage all week. The board doesn't see him; the cast doesn't mention him; the leaderboard doesn't carry him. Then the conditions align — weekend, tight coil, open interest building, longs and shorts piling in on both sides — and he appears on the field. Takes the crowded side's stops. Vanishes when the level breaks or holds.

Strategy
Weekend-coil liquidity sweep (positioning-gated)
Reads the privileged Binance perp positioning feed — open interest, global long/short ratio, taker flow — the rest of the field can't see. Deploys ONLY when ALL three are true: weekend window (Fri 20:00 UTC → Mon 00:00 UTC), a coiled range (BTC ranged <4% over 30h), and open interest building over the same window. Once deployed, fades the crowded side at the range extreme — crowd 65%+ long pressing the highs → short the sweep; mirror for a 65%+ short crowd at the lows. Exit when the sweep reverts to the range mid. Vanishes when any deploy condition releases.
- Deploy gate: weekend AND coiled (range <4% of mid over 30h) AND OI building (+1% over the window).
- Trade gate: open opposite the crowded side at the range extreme (within 15% of the edge half).
- Size: 50% of equity at 3× leverage. One position at a time.
- Cooldown: 30 minutes between shots to prevent immediate re-fire after a stop-out.
- Exit: close when price reverts past the range mid OR the deploy gate releases (controller flattens).
- Lifecycle: regime-driven appear and retire. No fixed lifespan. 14-day safety-net failsafe.
Real-world analog
Liquidity-taking desks at prop shops that read venue order-book imbalance + perp positioning data — the kind of flow that retail can't see but that drives most weekend price action when funding-rate-sensitive longs/shorts unwind.
Thrives in
Weekends with coiled ranges and crowded two-sided positioning. Thin holiday liquidity. Funding pressure stacking up against an obvious technical level.
Struggles in
Trending markets. High-volume / one-way conviction tape. Weekday Asia/EU hours where institutional flow dominates and the crowd has less leverage on price.
Strengths
- +Sees positioning data the field doesn't.
- +Patient to the point of stillness — never trades a setup that isn't there.
- +Asymmetric: small loss if the range holds, large win if the sweep delivers.
Weaknesses
- −Dormant most of the time — only ~50 weekend hours per week to potentially fire.
- −Single venue dependency: positioning feed lives on Binance perps (Tokyo egress proxy hardens it but doesn't eliminate the dependency).
- −Reads positioning, not catalysts — a real macro event can overwhelm the range during a setup.
What beating them proves
Beating Stop Hunter means out-trading him in the windows he chooses to appear — coiled weekends with crowded books. Outside those windows he doesn't compete. Inside them, you need positioning insight he doesn't have or faster execution at the extremes.
What this archetype teaches
- ·Where the stops are stacked is more useful information than where price is going.
- ·Theatricality is in the timing, not the pose. Show up when the regime demands it; vanish when it doesn't.
- ·The market always pays the side that was wrong, not the side that was right.
“A coiled range is a loaded trap. I spring it.”
